A 9" prop presents a different problem. Inertia is high, loads are sustained rather than momentary, and the throttle band that matters is not the one a typical motor is designed around. Most 9" builds spend their time between a third and two thirds throttle cruising, lifting, or holding a camera steady.
The AOS Supernova 2810 was designed around that operating range, the 2810’s taller stator suits the heavier loads of 9": more torque, more thrust through the whole throttle range, and the mechanical stiffness a heavy, high-inertia prop needs.
FROM THE THRUST STAND
Chris Rosser tested the Supernova 2810 on the thrust stand on an HQ 9x4x3 prop, against the other 2810s available and a field of larger 2812s.
- The most torque of any 2810 in the test: 0.623 N.m at 5,000 RPM beating all other 2810s tested and several 2812 size motors.
- The highest max thrust of any 2810 tested: 3.28 kg on an HQ 9x4x3 7% more than an average 2810 motor.
- The most responsive 2810 in the test: 36% more responsive than an average 2810 with both the fastest acceleration and deceleration of the HQ 9x4x3 test prop.
A 9" prop stores a lot of energy, so a motor needs to be able shed RPMs as readily as it adds it. The 2810 leads its class in both directions, which is what gives a large, heavy build the composure to hold a line in wind.
The design approach is the same one used for the AOS Supernova 3220: thousands of finite element simulations, including 3D transient field modelling, applied here for smooth torque delivery and controlled thermals for heavier drones.
